Statistics from the Logbook: 8 June 1998 to 1 January 2001
From departure until January 1, 2001, Heartsong III sailed 12,000 miles and visited 70
different ports (some more than once) and 17 different countries or island
groups. We have averaged about 650 nautical miles per month, including
one multi-day passage. On average, we have visited just under one country per month,
and about one port per week.
All of these stats ignore the full year we spent "at the dock" in New Zealand, where we
left the boat for land travel in New Zealand and Australia.
Time Underway (through
1/1/01)
According to
sailing magazines, the average percentage of days a typical cruiser spends some
portion of the daylight hours underway is about 20%, plus or minus. At 29%, we
move around maybe slightly more than average.
